Cultivators Report

An astounding cross with all the things Iโ€™m seeking for beginner to intermediate growers. Two of my favorite plants collide in this mix and do not disappoint. Sheโ€™s a robust, short to medium-height plant, needing little fertilization or attention for those that have a busy life. She stacks all along her small frame with little larf if defoliated well. Both phenos didnโ€™t have a spot of mold on them. She also produces what I classify as medium to high-density nuggets reminiscent of the Chem 91. The hazy flavors from the Blackberry Kush (terpinolene in particular) are gone in this mix, which settles on more of the deep, pungent odors of the Chemstar and grandparents

Pheno Characteristics

I found two main phenotypes which aromas had a range of piney, fuel, blackberry, and fruity with a background of earth, and resinous wood. They were both similar in growth and stature, but one aroma had more of the fuel and the other more sweet, berry. The berry pheno also had more foxtail behavior, as well as a bit bigger, but less dense clusters

Growth and Potential

The structure and potential of this line were exactly what I was looking for. I ended up hunting and finding a prized male that was used on another project, which also made some of my best progeny to date.

History of the Line

The female used in this cross is my first love, the Black Magic circa 2014. She was the first plant I ever grew that made my jaw drop and my grower friends โ€œmagically mad.โ€ Iโ€™ve held her for almost a decade and with good reason. She has a great yield (2.5-3+lb/light), rugged metabolism, medium-high density flower, and exemplifies that rare, recessive terpinolene and blackberry signature aroma. Iโ€™ve yet to find anything with her distinct profile which is delicately lost in most crosses from her.

Traits and Yields

Although she tends to pass on an out-of-this-world trichome density adorned on her sparkly, white foxtails. These traits may lend to the folklore that Blue Permafrost has the White Widow in her lineage for more than one reason. Sheโ€™s very leafy during early flowering, so a good defoliation is always in order. If done right, she will reward you with a full, stacked medium-height canopy.

She doesnโ€™t like to share her bed/roots with other plants typically and blows up quick if fed medium-heavy during the middle of the flower. Also, Iโ€™ve seen that this plant produces delicate trichomes with thin cuticles that feel โ€œwet/oilyโ€ and is not a fresh frozen washer (possibly partially dried it is decent), but when pressed for rosin at the correct time she has easily yielded 25-30% at top quality. One thing many people have noticed about this plant is she casts an aphrodisiac lens on the night. Donโ€™t be afraid, she will gently glide you into the moonlight.

About the Male

The male group used on this project consisted of 3 banging โ€œresin males.โ€ A resin male has a particular expression that produces trichomes across the male flowers. This is a sign of a high trichome density plant and Iโ€™ve almost always seen this trait translate to the female progeny as well

Chemstar BX3 #393

Back to the reason I used these males, the female Chemstar BX3 #393 is an absolute winner and has many of the growmies raving recently. This cross from the experienced breeder, Buckwheat, brings together two classic giants on the pungent acrid spectrum. She develops a big frame with the vigor of the Deathstar and the metabolic/nutrient tendencies of the Chem 91. The aroma is a melding of the Deathstar with strong chemical influences from the Chem 91.

Growth and Aroma Profile

Typically she and her progeny will not like feeding too heavy in veg/early flower, easily burn leaves from light intensity, and will be finicky if too cold. She doesnโ€™t like to have high temps of the day less than the high 60s or she will develop an off-leaf color and deficiency. Although this is classic of most Chems, it makes up for it in absolute top-tier trichome coverage and bone-crushing potency with a huge yield to boot if you adjust conditions just right. She also can sport sparkly, sandy, plump trichomes with giant wiffleball bat-sized tops. I have pulled 3.5-4lbs off an HLG Scorpion fixture and she has a potential to have medium-high (~3-5%) returns from wash tests.

Her offspring come out with a broad range of aromas from a strong chemical/fuel smell to more of a funky, spice, earthy, wood aromascape similar to the Deathstar, as in the Goobstar. There is also some berry, sweet, pungent examples from the Professorโ€™s Star. However, the Banana Pepper is an outlier and holds some highly rare aroma profiles of sweet citrus with spicy pepper tastes. I have pulled multiple keepers from these lines for top-notch breeding stock.
